On December 1, the partner companies were invited to participate in the Energy Day at Feed Design Lab. A day that was all about energy saving in the feed plant. The day was a combination of information exchange regarding energy saving and a challenge day in which the challenges the sector faces in the field of energy were presented.

The fact that energy is a ‘hot’ item was evident from the overwhelming turnout, with 75 participants!

11 companies gave a presentation and networking and ideas could be exchanged in the corridors at the mini fair of 8 stands.

At the end of the day it turned out that this formula had produced enough material to indicate a follow-up and the participants would like to see this theme regularly returned to the agenda.

People also found it interesting to see what steps others had already taken in energy saving. Now the level of energy prices was the reason for this topic, but of course the footprint / CO2 reduction is also an item in itself. There are also questions about the nutritional effects of energy saving and the consequences for animal health.

Within the continents there seem to be large differences in energy consumption in animal feed production. There are differences of 45-85% in the efficiency (ratio of energy consumption and capacity) of the plant. What can we learn from that?

Finally, it became clear that there is a challenge to optimize quality requirements and efficient energy use: to measure is to know!

In short, we look back on a very successful Energy Day that has provided enough inspiration for a follow-up next year!
