Partner Lucta

In conversation with Lotte van Rooijen
What is your relation to Feed Design Lab?
Lucta has been a partner of Feed Design Lab since early 2022. During the FDL Business Trip in 2024, we had the pleasure of welcoming the participants to our headquarters in Barcelona, where we provided insights into our activities within the animal nutrition sector and the various applications of our products.
What is your position at Lucta?
Although Lucta is strongly established worldwide in feed additives, the company is still less well known within the pet food sector. My role is to further introduce and expand the knowledge, technologies, and products that Lucta has developed for animal nutrition into the pet food industry.
What is the position of Lucta in the animal production sector?
Lucta is an international family-owned company headquartered in Barcelona, and in 2024 we celebrated our 75th anniversary. With production facilities around the world, we develop feed additives focused on feed intake, gut health, animal welfare, and feed hygiene. Lucta is particularly known for its expertise in flavours, palatability solutions, and sensory technologies for swine, ruminant, poultry, and aquaculture nutrition. In addition, we offer solutions for feed preservation, oxidation stability, and supporting animal performance during challenging periods such as weaning or heat stress.
Within pet food, Lucta is increasingly responding to the growing demand for high-quality sensory solutions. Our focus is on improving feed acceptance and the sensory experience of dog and cat food for both the pet and the pet owner, an increasingly important aspect within premium and functional pet food concepts.
Why are you a partner of Feed Design Lab?
For Lucta, Feed Design Lab is a valuable platform for sharing knowledge, maintaining connections within the industry, and developing new collaborations. In addition, the pilot plant offers interesting opportunities for innovation, product development, and practical applications.
Which topics you think Feed Design Lab should be active in?
For Lucta, a further expansion of the pilot plant towards pet food applications would be of great interest. This could include facilities for smaller production batches, additional storage capacity, and equipment such as an autoclave for the sterilization of canned products. Such developments would further enhance opportunities for research, product development, and validation within the pet food sector.
