Education: HAS Green Academy Venlo
I would like to take this opportunity to briefly introduce myself.
My name is Pleun Joosten, and I am from Venray. On 31 August, I started my research internship at Feed Design Lab. This internship is part of the third year of my Applied Biology studies at HAS Green Academy in Venlo and marks the first step towards completing my degree.
During my 20-week internship, I will mainly be working on the ‘Circular Feed Solutions’ project. The aim of this project is to test suitable circular by-products for use in pelleted and extruded animal feed, with the goal of potentially using these materials in commercial production facilities in the future.
The project consists of three phases. During my internship, I will mainly focus on phases 1 and 2.
In the first phase, we will investigate which by-products are suitable for use in animal feed and which factors play an important role in their application.
In the second phase, the most suitable by-products will be added to animal feed. The final products will then be tested for various properties, such as shelf life and product quality. Based on these results, the most promising products may be tested on animals in phase 3.
Besides my studies, I enjoy playing sports and spending time with friends. I also have a part-time job at Frietwinkel Venray. This allows me to combine my studies with work and free time.
I look forward to learning new things, gaining valuable experience and contributing to the project over the next 20 weeks!
