Leo den Hartog, VICTAM Foundation

What is your relation to Feed Design Lab?.
We have been supporting the Feed Design Lab as a Community Partner since March 2018.

What is your position at the VICTAM Foundation?
I am the President of the Board for the VICTAM Foundation.

What is the position of the VICTAM Foundation in the animal feed production sector?
The VICTAM Foundation dates back to 1964 and was originally founded to organise a trade fair for suppliers to the feed related industries. The first exhibition took place in Utrecht in 1965. The VICTAM exhibitions are now organised worldwide in Utrecht, Bangkok and Istanbul and are leading within the feed, pet food and aquafeed industry. Additionally, we organise GRAPAS, the event for the grain, rice and flour milling technology.

Over time, the foundation has expanded its activities to promote the above industries. Besides organising fairs and conferences, these activities consist of support of research projects from universities and institutes, publications, student exchanges to contacts with relevant associations.

Why are you a partner of Feed Design Lab?
The aim of the Foundation is to provide financial support for innovative projects to non-profit companies such as institutes, universities, colleges and individual scholarships. Among other things, the Foundation strives to make positive contributions to the technological development of the production of animal feed. The Feed Design Lab therefore fits very well with our goal to promote and stimulate innovation within the feed sector.

Which topics you think Feed Design Lab should be active in?
Innovations go very fast. New raw materials will enter the market and the nutritional value of several existing raw materials will change due to new technologies. The role of the Feed Design Lab is crucial in testing the new technologies in feed production for all species especially in relation to the efficiency of production, reduction of the energy use and the effect on improvement of digestibility of the feed by the animals.
